The Special and Gifted Education (SAGE) Committee of the Plano Council of PTAs, in partnership with the PISD Special Education Department, is hosting a 4-part series on understanding the nuances of the special education process. We will discuss the IEP (Individual Education Plan) document, line by line, as we have found that many lengthy ARD (Admission, Review and Dismissal) meetings are due to the many questions surrounding this daunting document. We will also discuss what is an appropriate and measurable goal (bring your IEP’s to check!) and ways that the school and parents should be tracking the child’s progress. We will have practical tips that other parents are using and input from teachers.
Our last session will be very interactive with role playing of good and bad ARDs and how to collaborate a partnership between parents and teachers.
This 4-part workshop is not just for new special ed parents and teachers!! This is for ALL parents and teachers in the system. We promise you all will walk away with incredible learnings, especially when you thought you had “been there done that”.
For the first time, we are offering childcare provided by the ARC of Dallas!!!! You must RSVP in advance and there will be a nominal fee of $5 per child. See all the details on the attached flyer.
