Membership News - November 2007

Hi folks, GREAT JOB on your membership campaigns! I hope you’ve had at least 5 minutes to relax, because now we’ve got more things to talk about! Below you will find information on our membership drive as a Council, the local PTA award winners for Texas PTA Fall membership awards and NEW INFORMATION ABOUT THE LIFE MEMBER BANQUET!!

What is missing is the results of the membership awards by Council because we’re going to announce those at the November 27th Regular Council meeting. You are welcome to attend - it is at 10 a.m. in the PISD Administration building, room 311. If you don’t have a representative from your school there and you win an award, know that we cheered for your PTA and that I’ll interoffice the award to you the next day. If you have any questions, please let me know! Regards, Cara Mendelsohn, VP Membership, Plano ISD Council of PTAs

PTA Membership Update

Thank you to all the local Membership chairman who have worked so hard this year to encourage our parents to join PTA! You have had wonderful ideas and made great strides to reach out to all PISD parents. The fall membership campaign ended October 15 and we just got back our membership report from Texas PTA. Here are the statistics that show your hard work:

  • We have 36,611 PTA members in PISD Council of PTAs

  • We have 10 PTAs with an increase in membership of over 10%

  • We won 45% of the membership awards for our area

  • Our PTAs will receive a total of 124 Texas membership awards!

GREAT JOB EVERYBODY & THANKS FOR YOUR EFFORTS!!

Life Member Banquet

Every year local PTAs have the opportunity to honor extraordinary volunteers, staff or community partners that have made a significant impact on their PTA at the Texas Life Member Banquet. The banquet is coordinated by the Plano ISD Council of PTAs and we are proud to have returning sponsor AXA Advisors and new sponsor Class Act School Packs. We are also pleased to announce that The Honorable Brian McCall, Texas State Representative and Texas PTA Life Member (awarded by Plano Council) will give our opening remarks.

This is a big affair and we expect over 600 guests! Invitations will go out to all the PTAs by the first week of January. Many PTAs purchase a whole table for honorees and guests (often spouses and principals), while others purchase one or two tickets per honoree. Our theme this year is Passport To Achievement.

Time to Get Started!

Many PTAs have specific guidelines on how they select their Texas PTA Life Members. Please check your bylaws or contact your local PTA president to get the process started. You will need to know who your honorees are by the beginning of January!

Invitations

Invitations to the banquet will be sent out the first week of January. Please make sure you get your RSVPs and checks in ASAP after receiving the invitation!

Banquet Details

Tuesday, February 26, 2008

6:30 p.m. @ Plano Centre (just east of Spring Creek & Central Expwy)

$25.00 per person, dinner included

RSVP needed by the end of January – see details on invitation!

Certificates & Pins

Most PTAs present a Texas Life Member Certificate and pin (or charm) to their honorees at the banquet. To ensure you have these items in time, you must order them on the Texas PTA website ( www.txpta.org) by the first week of January.

What Do I Need To Submit to Council?

By the end of January you must submit information on your honorees to have them included in the keepsake program. Of course, we’d love to get this information as early as possible. This year, we have changed the format and are asking for the following information:

  1. Name of Honoree as you would like it printed

  2. Which honor is being bestowed? (Texas Life Member, Extended Life Member, or National Life Member)

  3. List positions currently/previously held in PTA, or at your school or other role related to this honor

  4. How many years at your school? (if applicable)

  5. How many years supporting PTA/PISD?

  6. Why is this person being honored?

  7. List 5 words that describe the honoree

  8. People who share this honoree’s life (if applicable & honoree wishes to include)

Please send the information to membership@planopta.org.
