GOOD NEWS! Many of you have asked about getting the Texas PTA member discounts in Spanish. We had the document translated and it is attached to this email. The version in English is on the Texas PTA website. This is very useful to your members as it gives the instructions on how to get the discounts and the promotional codes needed. You may want to consider putting an article in your newsletter reminding your members about the discounts and that they need to access ALL of them online - you can’t just show up at Sea World and get a discount.
How are you coming along with selection of your Texas PTA Life Members?
One of the most frequent questions I’ve been asked is if the honoree needs to be a PTA member? The answer is no. Certainly the bulk of honorees are PTA members, but the main criteria should be outstanding service to children and youth. Several of you have expressed concerns about honorees who are staff members and who have not joined PTA. I would certainly let the selection committee know who is/isn’t a PTA member and let them make a decision based on all the facts.
Don’t forget that I’ll need the write ups by the end of January (1/31) if they are to be included in the keepsake program. The format has changed this year and it is more of a Q & A than a big paragraph. I have previously sent out the questions to which we want you to supply the answers about your honorees. You can find them on the PTA Council website. I WILL be reminding you about this as it gets closer and closer!
Your invitations to the Life Member Banquet will be at your school the first week back from winter break. It is going to be a blast!!!
Don’t forget to order your pins/certificates from Texas PTA by the first week or two in January in order to have them by the banquet. You can download the form and mail in the check or order online at http://www.txpta.org/members/awardforms.html and Texas PTA will send you a receipt to submit for reimbursement from your local PTA.

Have you ever participated in the series of Martin Luther King, Jr. (MLK) events sponsored by the City of Plano or PISD? There are two in particular that I’d like to invite you to attend with me. They are:
Date: Saturday, Jan 19
Time: Noon-4 p.m.
What: MLK Health Fair at the Douglass Community Center after the MLK parade. I am planning to have a PTA membership table and would love to have you, or anyone in your PTA that would be interested, hang out and talk to folks about PTA.
Location: Douglass Community Center in Downtown/East Plano
Attire: your local PTA shirt, jeans
RSVP: Please let me know if you are interested/able to attend and what shift you would like (12-2 or 2-4)
Date: Monday, Jan 21 (school holiday but this is an adult-only event) Time: 7:45 a.m. What: FREE Leadership Breakfast. They have had terrific speakers in the past from all parts of Plano and Texas civic life and the focus is on cooperation, high expectations and building community in Plano. And you get a free breakfast! Location: CCCC-Spring Creek Conference Center Attire: Business Casual RSVP: Not needed, but if you let me know, I will save you a seat
