Hi, I’m Cara Mendelsohn, the PTA Council Membership chairman. Just wanted to introduce myself before the school year really “takes off.” I know many of you have already been hard at work with your membership drives and I hope you are finding it easy to encourage parents (and high school students) to “come aboard.” I’ve already heard from many of you, but if you have any membership questions, I’m happy to help you find the answers you need.
Please save the date - Friday, September 7, 12:30-2:00 for our Fall Membership Coffee. We’ll go over any questions you have about membership campaigns, awards, life member banquet and more! It is a great chance to get to know some of the other membership chairs and learn from their success. If your initial membership numbers are not what you were hoping for, we’ll talk about easy and proven ways you can encourage membership. An invitation will be inter-office mailed to you the first week of school.
If you attended the Officer and Chairman’s training in May, you already have many of the starter tools you will need. The fall coffee will build on that and not be a complete repeat. If you weren’t able to make it, we sent your packet to your school’s president so you could have the materials.
Membership Cards. I was able to pick up the membership and new member benefit cards for many (but not all) schools at Summer Session. Schools that did not have a PTA president on file were retained by Texas PTA until the records are complete. I’ll bring the ones I have to the fall coffee for your convenience.
Looking for more info NOW? Your “first stop” should be the planopta.org site (smart move coming here!). Next stop, the txpta.org website. The membership information is in several places, so look at the headings carefully. If you don’t find what you need, email me and I’ll send you the link.
Please be on the look out for the PTA Council dues form, which I’ll be inter-office mailing (along with the fall coffee invite) in the first week of school.
I look forward to working with you this year and to seeing you soon!
Cara Mendelsohn, Membership VP, Plano ISD Council of PTAs
