Ever wonder why some immigrant students don’t address the teacher by name? How come parents are not more in touch with their child’s teacher? Why do they seldom volunteer? Why is there seemingly no effort to learn English and advance in education? All these questions have a perfectly logical cultural answer. We’ll explore differences in school cultures and views on education, and we’ll define culture in a broad and easy- to-deconstruct format that allows for validation of the immigrant’s cultural baggage and acculturation of the family.

So please join us with our guest speaker Georgina Tezer, Language Services with the Carrollton/Farmers Branch ISD when she will talk about “Cultural Contrasts in a Multicultural School Environment.” This program will be worth your time as we get ready to form our new PTA Boards and Committee Chairman for the 2008-2009 school year.
