Plano PTA President’s Welcome Letter
Welcome local Plano PTA presidents!
You are in for an exciting and rewarding time as a local PTA president! If you have been a leader many times, or never done it before, you will find that PTA provides the training and resources you need to succeed. By visiting our www.planopta.org website, you will find links to many useful sources of information.
As Council president, I am one of those resources available to you. If you aren’t getting regular email updates from me, please email me at president@planopta.org and give your name and PTA so you can stay up to date.
What is the best way to get help from me? I’m really good with email, so that is the quickest and easiest way to reach me. I love to email back in carpool line and while I’m sitting in meetings. I’ve got 3 kids, including one that will (finally!) start kindergarten in the fall, so time to talk on the phone, especially to really listen to problems, is tough for me. But sometimes, that is what is needed and I am happy to help you. If you email me and let me know you have a phone call kind of issue, I’ll call you as soon as I can. Leaving messages at my home phone is not the best idea…. it is often full and I don’t check it frequently. The school district gives out that number and my answering machine is often overwhelmed with sales calls and I am overwhelmed with listening to them!
Do you know Plano Council? Plano Council celebrated its 20th birthday this year. All of our 67 PTAs combined make up nearly 36,000 members! We represent a diverse membership of parents, teachers and extended family members of students. We are currently the Outstanding Extra-Large sized PTA Council in Texas.
As PTA president, you set the tone and pace for your PTA. Take this opportunity to do something great for your community! Step just outside your comfort zone and introduce yourself to people you haven’t met, try a new project your PTA hasn’t done before but in your gut you know is needed, encourage a new board member to develop his or her skills to be ready for the next position, and build those bridges with your principal to accomplish all the things your parent community dreams of. You can do this!
And if I can be of assistance to you, please let me know. It is my pleasure to help you be a success. Congratulations, it is going to be a great year!
